This afternoon our class is headed across the hall to watch the second half of the movie, The Prince of Egypt with our general education peers. We LOVE opportunities to hang out with our teammates, so we were thrilled to receive an invitation to spend a little leisure time with our friends! To celebrate, we thought we'd bring snacks to share with everyone. We popped bag after bag of popcorn and filled 120 sandwich bags to hand out before the movie. It was such a fun activity, and we were able to incorporate functional skill practice into each of the steps (using math to count the number of bag, measuring each cup of popcorn, using the microwave, opening/closing bags, following directions). We can't wait for 1:15 to roll around!
Here's one of my students setting the microwave to pop a bag of popcorn.
Two of my students (humoring me with a pose!) took turns running full bowls of popcorn from the kitchen to the classroom so that the rest of the group could measure and bag it.
We have AWESOME peers during second period- they did a great job helping our kids complete their assigned duties. Our peers do a great job helping students while making sure that everyone is working as independently as possible.
Our lovely occupational therapist, Mrs. E.
(who you might remember from this post) came to help!
The kids picked up the routine quickly and
managed to finish the whole project in about an hour.
What a great end to our week-
there's nothing better than a
popcorn and movie date!
We love being a part of our grade level team!
Oh, that looks like so much fun—I love how everyday activities can be such wonderful learning moments! Thanks so much for linking up at Friday Favorites. =)
