To wrap up our August baseball unit, I thought it might be fun to play a little baseball BINGO. On Friday afternoon, while we were counting down the minutes until our movie date with our team, we broke out some homemade BINGO cards (thank you, Symbolstix) and played a few games.
We are lucky enough to have different peers helping us throughout the day, so our sixth grade group was on hand to help us play. All of our peers are really doing a great job encouraging our students to be as independent as possible. We are VERY lucky!
Here's a sample card- I used different images from the different chapters we read throughout the month. It was a great way to summarize everything that we learned!
Our peers did a great job working with the kids to find each symbol. When I called a symbol, I used it in a sentence and reviewed how it applied to our baseball unit. The kids really enjoyed learning all about the game and were excited to show off what they knew.
Instead of using coins or other small manipulatives, I laminated the cards, and we just used markers. Definitely learned from experience that this is WAY easier that using something that can be easily knocked off the board mid-game!
This was a great way to spend a Friday afternoon. We try to integrate some leisure activities into our Fridays- BINGO is always a nice way to have some game time that integrates our monthly theme (we also play BINGO with our group reading novels).
Hope everyone's week is off to a good start!
We'll be back tomorrow
with Wordless Wednesday.
