Science Adventure!

It was an especially good day to be a Lifeskills student yesterday! We have been emailing back and forth with one of the wonderful 8th grade science teachers, Mrs. M., and she graciously invited our class to come participate in several activities her class completed earlier in the week. You can read more about our emailing adventures here. We were so excited to check out a science lab and hang out with some of Mrs. M's science students!
The students made us the
sweetest welcome sign!
There were stations set up around the room allowing our kids to learn about embryos, birds and fossils. My group moved from station to station, working with some of the students from Mrs. M's class on each activity.
Not only were the activities fun and interesting, but they also allowed my students to practice their fine motor skills (in the picture above, my students are using tweezers to move seeds from one location to another).
Mrs. M. explained what her students were learning this week; some of her students demonstrated how to differentiate between real and imitation fossils in the picture above.

We learned about the different stages of embryonic development.
And posed for a group picture!

I love opportunities like these! My kids were able to participate in some wonderful science activities with their peers, and their peers were able to get to know my kids in a different capacity. I am thankful for teachers like Mrs. M.; teachers who promote a culture of acceptance and inclusion by reaching out and forging relationships
with students of all abilities.

Blogging about our adventures and emailing new friends has created some really wonderful opportunities for my class. We're making creating new friendships and loving every minute of it!
