Last week I posted about our adventures in pedestrian safety, and now it's time to share the first part of that trip. We set out early last Friday for the local police department. We arrived and posed for some pictures despite the blustery, gray, definitely un-Springlike conditions.
We have been looking forward
to this trip for weeks!
The purpose of our trip was two-fold: first, it's important for my students to familiarize themselves with the role of police officers in the community; second, it's important for our community helpers to get to know us!
Our wonderful tour guide, Lt. B., did an exceptional job of answering our questions and deflecting questions about
We even had the opportunity
to sit in a squad car!
Officer B (not to be confused with Lt. B) showed us how the lights work on his squad car and talked about the importance of seat belt safety.
We toured the courtroom...
We asked more questions and learned about
the types of infractions addressed
at the police station.
And, of course, posed for more pictures!
This visit coincided perfectly with our April unit on citizenship. We loved this adventure and are excited for our school police officer to come speak to us next week!
