It's that time again- time for me to convince each and every one of my students to stick a bare hand inside a sticky, squishy pumpkin! The adults kids look forward to this day for months- it is a big hit around here! It's been a funny Halloween where we live-the weather center was calling for high winds and thunderstorms on Halloween, so many of the towns in our area pushed trick-or-treating hours to Friday. I've never heard of anything like this, but we're looking at it as an extra Halloween in my class!
To get ready for our pumpkin carving adventure, we read a Unique Learning Systems story called Carving a Pumpkin.
I projected the story onto our big screen using an ELMO projector, and we read it as a group.
Each student had an iPad with the story open (we use iBooks). As we read, students followed along with their finger and answered questions. We are loving our iPads!
To decide how our pumpkin would look, I made this ballot:
The kids worked with peers to decide which features they'd like our class pumpkin to have.
They did a great job voting!
Here's the final result! I love it!
And here's a sneak peek from an upcoming post about the second part of our pumpkin-carving extravaganza:
HAPPY FRIDAY!
