Every year we take a trip to our local Subway to practice our communication and money skills (amongst other things!). We prepare by sending home a form asking parents to help their child decide what to order. Next, I use Symbolstix to select pictures to match each student's order. The kids are responsible for gluing their pictures onto an order form that will help them be a little more independent at the restaurant.
When we got to the restaurant we all found a seat to wait for our turn.
We had a nice chance to pose for some pictures while we waited!
We used our picture menus to order sandwiches.
Or to give important speeches about the condiments we chose!
We were very fortunate to be invited behind the counter to wrap our own sandwiches.
It was a really big deal for us! One of our kiddos was so proud- he told everyone he felt just like an adult!
We ordered our sides and paid for our meals...
On the way out, the wonderful store manager, A, gave us all hi-fives!
A special, heartfelt thank you to A and the rest of the Subway staff for taking the time to help us with our orders, payment and special sandwich-wrapping activity!
