A few months ago, the director of our special education cooperative sent out an email seeking nominations for a wonderful award given annually to commemorate the life of a very special little boy named Isaac Beeson and honor the work of an employee who consistently goes above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of children with disabilities.
Last week, I was BEYOND EXCITED to learn that the wonderful bus driver I nominated would be the 2013 recipient of the Isaac Beeson Award. Let me tell you a little bit about Ms. Tammy...
When you meet Ms. Tammy, you can FEEL how much she cares about the kids she drives to school each day. More importantly, the kids can feel it. She doesn't just drive the kids, she treats them like they are her own. She gives her riders' parents the gift of knowing that, for the bus ride to and from school each day, their child (whether verbal or nonverbal) will be respected and safe.
We lured Miss Tammy to our building under the guise of paperwork and were successful in keeping her award a surprise! Here we are posing for a picture with Isaac's wonderful mom (on the right). The plaque Miss Tammy is carrying has a gorgeous picture of Isaac along with the engraved names of past recipients.
Here is one last picture of Miss Tammy with the director of our special education cooperative. Along with Isaac's family, he spoke about the importance of staff members like Miss Tammy who do more than their jobs, who give a little extra every day without being asked.
This was such a wonderful day for Miss Tammy, the Beeson family and all of us at our special education cooperative and middle school. We are so lucky not only to have people who go the extra mile for our kids, but we are also incredibly fortunate to have people in our lives who acknowledge these special employees. Thank you to Tammy for loving my group, and thank you to the Beeson family and our administrators (both local and special education cooperative) who shine a spotlight on the extraordinary.
Congrats to Miss Tammy on such an honor! So glad that the Isaac Beeson award continues long after TriCounty is gone. So thankful for people like Miss Tammy and to you too Alison for all you do for our kiddos. You are the hands and feet of God. :-)
