Grilled Cheesin'

Every other Friday we get cooking in our Lifeskills kitchen! We practice all of the skills that are going to help us be more independent at home and once we're adults. A few posts ago I told you all about our wonderful Skype tour at Ruxbin Kitchen (and, a shameless plug bit of news for my Chicago friends, they're opening up restaurant #2, Mott Street, this Spring!!) and shared some pictures of my group practicing cutting, chopping, slicing and dicing.

Around here we LIVE for cooking class...

To me it's critical to teach my kids how to make foods that they can make for themselves at home. Nothing crazy, just the basics. We work on making soup, oatmeal, eggs, sandwiches, etc. We also do some baking and have coated ourselves in flour making Valentine's Day cookies and Thanksgiving pumpkin pie.

This week we made ourselves
 some grilled cheese sandwiches.
 Check it out!

 Reading our recipes!
I adapt regular recipes by adding pictures
of ingredients, tools and tasks to help my
non-reader kiddos follow directions.
Taking some bread out to start making our sandwiches...
Assembling...
Turning on our grill pan...
 Buttering it up!
Grilling!
 and grilling...
 and grilling...
Admiring our handiwork...
Savoring the spoils!

Hope you enjoyed peeking in on our cooking activity!
Come back and see us soon :)
