On Friday we continued our horsemanship classes at Agape Therapeutic Riding Center. Despite the rainy and unseasonably cool temperatures, the kids had a blast learning how to groom a horse!
We started in the meeting room learning all about the different tools used to groom horses.
The kids completed a great cut and paste activity that helped them order the different steps.
The kids did a nice job matching the pictures of the different tools to their respective names. They worked in pairs and impressed everyone with their turn-taking!
I have to stop for a minute and introduce you to a very special person, Mr. M. Mr. M. is a regular substitute teacher in my classroom. You would never for a minute know that Mr. M. isn't a trained instructional assistant. He is absolutely fabulous when it comes to motivating students to do their very best work. He fits right into our group dynamic, and we are always thankful to have him spend the day with us!
Here is our group working together to complete the grooming tool activity.
Next we headed out to the stable to meet some horses and practice what we learned.
The kids took turns using each grooming tool on the very patient horses.
We even got a chance to use the pick to clean out horseshoes!
Everyone loved getting the chance for some one on one time with the horses. The kids asked some great questions and weren't shy about getting in there and trying each grooming tool.
When we finished with our lesson, we interviewed staff members about Project Work. The kids practiced their questions with our awesome peers and did a great job! The interviews will be compiled and shared at the Project Work graduation in June.
Hope everyone's week is off to a good start! We're gearing up for final stretch of the school year!
