We spent the month of January learning about American History and were beyond excited when we found out that some of our 8th grade peers were studying the same topics as we were in their American History class! I contacted one of our wonderful history teachers, and she was thrilled to work together to plan an activity that would be appropriate for both of our classes. As a self-contained special educator, I absolutely love opportunities for inclusion. I love that we're in a building where so many inclusion opportunities are available to my students!
Our Unique Learning Curriculum provided us with six chapters to help our students learn about important events in American History. We also participated in a variety of different classroom activities to support the content we learned within each chapter while making connections to concepts that are relevant to our kids as we work to increase their independent living skills.
Who doesn't love a good game of BINGO?! On Monday, our class ventured upstairs to Mrs. A.'s room to play a game of American History-themed BINGO (or JINGO, as the case may be!).
We were thrilled to see some familiar faces and quickly found seats next to some of our current and former peer facilitators.
We worked closely with new and old friends to find the different pictures on each BINGO card.
I've said it many times before, but there's not a whole lot that is more gratifying as a special educator than NOT being able to find your students in a general education class. Good stuff!
It was fun to see the kids working together on an activity that was appropriate for EVERYONE.
Stay tuned for an upcoming post on our very first adapted gymnastics class! Good stuff to come!
HAPPY FRIDAY!
