Swimming Like the Fishes

Our annual swimming trip is something our kids (and the adults too!) look forward to every year. We talk about it constantly for at least a month before the big day, and bathing suits are gathered in anticipation in the weeks leading up to our trip.

This trip is a reward for a school-year filled with hard work, perseverance and sometimes more than our fair share of tribulations. It's also a wonderful opportunity for my class to practice critical, functional skills that we work on daily at school and at home (think dressing skills, social skills, gross motor practice). The icing on the cake for our staff is that this swimming trip affords us another opportunity to bond with the kids and each other by just being free to swim and play!

On the way to the pool, we spent some time mugging for the camera!

 Can you feel the excitement?!
Almost time to swim...
I absolutely love this pool! It's where my daughters take swimming lessons (it's the park district's indoor pool...you should see the outdoor facility; it's AMAZING).
So happy to finally be in the pool!
The 'sprinkler' in the pool was a big hit- so much fun to catch the water!
 PURE. JOY.
Our wonderful IAs hopped right in and swam alongside the kids.
Floating in the lazy river...life doesn't get a whole lot better than this!
 Beautiful, relaxed girl.
 Testing out the water spout...
the face says it all!
Probably my favorite picture of the day.
I look at this and I can hear his laughter!
Relaxed and happy after a great swim...
Our trip was wonderful but EXHAUSTING!
Here we are channeling The Breakfast Club...

I can't tell you how much pictures like these mean to me. When I look at these pictures, I don't even see a trace of disability, only happiness and joy. Love that.
